It is possible today to make your own custom guitar, in a sense. You can take your current guitar and replace most of the part until it rivals the sound and look of some of the most expensive instruments. One of the best ways to do this is with wooden guitar parts. Most custom guitars use these parts because their sound and look are second to none.
If you have a guitar that has a decent body and was constructed with decent wood, this is all you need to customize in order to end up with a custom level instrument. The pickups can be swapped out and all of the other parts like the tuning pegs, pickup rings, and the bridge can be changed for some higher quality pieces. Once you have all of those upgraded your instrument will be just as good as any hand made guitar, and for a fraction of the cost.
