Guitar Mods That You Can Do Yourself

There are many helpful guitar mods that you can do yourself with very little craft or guitar repair experience. This post will go over a few of these that should be possible with nothing more than your hands and a screwdriver at most.

The first to mention is replacing the truss rod cover of the guitar. This is a simple operation that only requires unscrewing the original cover and screwing on the new one. Provided that your replacement fits, it should take no time at all to complete this modification and on most guitars you will not need to remove the strings beforehand or anything.

Upgrading the pickup rings on your guitar should also be very simple as long as you find replacements that fit. If they do not fit, this will require some more complex modification and customization that will call upon some precise woodworking skills, and you may want to have them professionally fitted. But if they are all set to be put on, it is simply a matter of screwing them in place, much like the truss rod cover.

One more easy guitar mod is to replace the tone and volume knobs. On most guitars, you should be able to pull the old ones off carefully and press the new ones on. If it seems like there is something else holding the old ones on there, you may want to take it to a guitar repair professional just to be careful.

These are some of the best simple guitar mods that you can do, and although they require little effort, they can make a big difference in the look and feel of your instrument. When it is so easy to customize and modify your guitar, what reason do you have not to?
