Music teachers should be familiar with guitar customization as much as possible because students will often be curious about some of the technical and mechanical sides of their guitars. We are of course talking about guitar teachers here. Many times someone who is new to the instrument will not know the details about how it works to the degree that an experienced teacher will, so it is helpful to be able to answer their questions as they arise. These will include not only the basic questions about how to get different tones out of the instrument, but also more specialized questions about guitar customization and modding.
Private music teachers should know these concepts to help students with questions about getting better tuners installed if they discover that their guitar does not hold its tuning very well. Even things such as replacing the tone and volume knobs of a guitar might interest students who were not aware that such things could easily be done. Having your own guitar with some mods on it may help get students interested in what they can do with their own instrument to make it more individual and functional for their needs, and this can all be a great thing to discuss during lessons.
Guitar modding can be a nice thing for guitar players to get involved with because it gets them building and constructing something and seeing the practical results of their work, and this is becoming an overlooked aspect of life in an age of the digital and non-concrete.
